Rio de Janeiro is not famous only for its beaches, Christ the Redeemer and the Carnival event, but also for its natural beauties it has to offer to its tourists. If you are in for some sporting activities, hiking might seem the best because it is a great way to enjoy the wonders of nature unfolding in this city.

You will be amazed of the large number of national parks, and peaks to climb with ease making them very suitable for those who love hiking. But even if you are not passionate with this sporting activity, you will soon discover that it is something that enriches your soul and mind in a unique and exciting way.

Let’s take a look at the three of the easiest and shortest hiking trails:

Parque da Catacumba – is actually a park located next to Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, a lagoon formed in this part of the city which was initially a favela (a general term used for a slump in Brazil) up the 70s when this name ceased to exist as per government decision. You will find a trail that leads to two points, at one end one point facing Leblon and with the other end facing Corcovado.

Don’t be intimidated by a portion of the trail that may seem a little bit steep, because you will be able to cross it simply because it is for a short distance. Inside the park you will find as well a climbing wall that can be approached from two different perspectives, a new challenge for wall climbers. The trail won’t last per total more than 20 minutes and you can enter the park through Avenida Epitácio Pessoa being available to hikers from Tuesday to Sunday.

Morro da Urca – is one of the two hills that lead to Sugarloaf Mountain in Rio de Janeiro, the mountain peak where you can reach with the cable car. Morro da Urca is in fact the first stop that this means of transportation makes to take tourists in their tour over the heights of the city.

You can also reach the top of this mountain by hiking and not needing as such to take the cable car. It is again a pretty easy trail to hike and if you are vacationing with your kids they can be as well carried through the trail that starts between Sugarloaf and Praia Vermelha. You have to walk for 1 km before you locate the trail but once you find it, you will have no problems into hiking it.

Morro do Leme – is the hill located at one end of Copacabana beach that houses the Forte Duque de Caxias, but to reach there you need to be more specific when looking for the area, because there is as well another Fort that you can be guided to. Again here you will find an easy trail to hike which starts at the bottom of the hill falling within the area that serves as a military base.
